High Speed Serial Interfaces Integration Lead

Come create the technology that helps the world act together

Nokia is committed to innovation and technology leadership across mobile, fixed and cloud networks. Your career here will have a positive impact on people’s lives and will help us build the capabilities needed for a more productive, sustainable, and inclusive world. We challenge ourselves to create an inclusive way of working where we are open to new ideas, empowered to take risks and fearless to bring our authentic selves to work.

The team you’ll be part of

The pandemic has highlighted how important telecoms networks are to society.  Nokia’s Network Infrastructure group is at the heart of a revolution to bring more and faster network capacity to people worldwide through our ambition, innovation, and technical expertise.

The Fixed Networks Division is one of the key divisions in Nokia focusing on making Ultra Broadband Access possible for all users in the world. The fixed access product portfolio consists out of Fiber and Copper Access technology. Our new developments focus on the evolution of Fiber access (Passive Optical Networks (PON)).

Our System-On-Chips are at the heart of our systems. It is where our competitive advantage starts. We push the boundaries with faster physical layer technologies (PON) and that means that the engineering complexity of our hardware design at this physical layer grows. Our System-on-Chips (ASIC technology) typically have more and more high-speed serial interfaces. These can be serdes interfaces for speeds from 1Gbps up to 100Gbps and high-speed external memory interfaces like (LP)DDR.
We are looking for cross-functional electronics engineers to build out a long term expert-team that can take ownership of all aspects of SERDES and DDR integration in our products.
With this position we are looking for a technical expert that can take a lead role to build this cross-functional team.

Your responsibilities:

  • You will build up expertise for the different high-speed interfaces for both SERDES and DDR as well as the interface standards (eg. ETH, PON, PCIe,…).

  • You will conduct upstream assessment of new 3rd party IPs (example SERDES) which are candidate for integration in our SoCs/HW product.

  • You will perform testing and characterization using evaluation boards.

  • You will be the main interface towards 3rd party suppliers for our SERDES and DDR IP and you will drive the interaction with them regarding detailed specification, test results, characterization results and issue tracking when needed.

  • You will build out a test framework for high-speed interface testing and drive to have test plans in place for both functional testing as well as characterization testing.

  • You will collaborate on front-end RTL integration and simulation of the selected IPs with the rest of the System-On-Chip (SoC) team when needed.

  • You will collaborate with the rest of the Hardware design team (PCB) on the package definition, ball map assignment, layout and signal integrity simulations for the high speed serial interfaces when needed.

  • You will collaborate with our Optical Module development team on critical high speed interfaces between our ASICs and optical transceivers and how the most optimal solutions can be defined, architected, designed and tested.

  • You will collaborate with the SoC team and HW/SW teams on integration testing of the interfaces to bring the overall product (SoC/HW/SW) up to product release quality.

  • You will follow up with maintenance and customer account teams on any potential issue observed in the field (world-wide customer base) in the area of the physical layer to investigate root-causes or provide fixes (SW or HW) or workarounds where needed.

  • You will further build out a small cross-functional team of high-speed serial interfaces experts to make sure that there is sufficient coverage for all domains as mentioned here above.

  • We expect you to be continuously looking for improvements in all areas of your work and the team's work. And most of all, we expect you to become not just a cog in the wheel, but one of the engines that helps the wheel drive.

Your skills and experience

  • You hold a Master’s degree and/or PhD in Electrical engineering
  • You have a broad interest in the telecom sector.
  • 10+ years of experience in hardware engineering (HW/IP/ASIC) is preferred.
  • Experience with SerDes and/or DDR characterization testing
  • Experience with high-speed digital design
  • Experience with high-speed analog SERDES design is a plus
  • Experience with Python, (System)Verilog, C/C++ is preferred.
  • Experience with schematic entry and PCB layout tools is a plus.
  • Experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.
  • Experience with technical 3rd party communication
  • Good communication skills and a strong independent thinker
  • Good planning and reporting skills
  • Willingness to work in world-wide R&D team context.
  • Agility in learning is key.
