PostgreSQL Database Administrator

The Database Administrator is responsible for the configuration, performance, integrity, security, and high availability of our databases. He collaborates with the software architect to design the database strategies. He works in a team of DevOps engineers and is involved in planning, developing, and troubleshooting of databases.

 

Job Description

  • Configure highly available database clusters in a Kubernetes environment. Evaluate application workloads and assess configuration fitness.
  • Monitor database health & performance.
  • Anticipate future database issues and plan automated tasks to minimize risks.
  • Coach development teams on database-related topics. Help with design issues, document good practices, provide advice and recommendations.
  • Support development and test teams with database-related performance issues.
  • Create or maintain technical documentation
  • Make work estimates for the tasks assigned to you
  • Plan, track and report your daily work and your assigned tasks to your direct manager
  • Follow the EVS software development process (Source Control Management, Defect Tracking, Coding Rules, Continuous Integration)
  • Coach and guide junior team members

 

Profile

  • Engineer, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science (high school or university)
  • At least 5 years of experience

Technical skills :

  • Very good knowledge of PostgreSQL:
  • streaming replication
  • performance analysis and troubleshooting
  • common tools and extensions
  • failover managers : repmgr, Patroni, etc.
  • Knowledge of disaster recovery principles and practices, including planning, testing, backup/restore
  • Very good knowledge of Linux systems, including performance analysis
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes and Docker is a plus, specifically the Zalando Postgres operator
  • Knowledge of the Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) is a plus
  • Knowledge of Apache Cassandra is a plus
  • Good knowledge of common development tools (Git, TeamCity, etc)
  • Experience in Agile Application Development & Scrum methodologies is a plus
