Innovation Manager 'AI for Health Decision Support'

Biomedical ‘big data’ analytics is increasingly important, as nowadays medical and clinical research is overwhelmed with a tsunami of data (number of patients, number of observations per patient, longitudinal data records). Moreover, tech transfer of mathematical engineering know-how into the medical field and deployment of algorithms and software in clinical practice, is increasingly important. ArtificiaI Intelligence is becoming mature in copying the tasks often done by humans, in a more efficient and cheaper way, assisting them, and allowing the humans to focus on the important decisions. AI in healthcare is hot, but also vast and here to stay, and always needs a sound scientific substantiation.

The research group STADIUS (EE Dept., KU Leuven) focuses its fundamental research on the development of mathematical engineering tools and numerical algorithms, using core concepts from linear and multi-linear algebra, statistics, optimization, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. Our researchers apply these tools and algorithms to advance the current state of technology across a wide range of relevant application fields, including industrial automation and control, speech and audio signal processing, digital communications, but with a huge focus on the Health domain: Biomedical data analysis and signal processing, bioinformatics and systems biology. Extensive industrial and societal valorization experience and opportunities are present, as shown by our spin offs, but STADIUS is in dire need for extra person-power.

The goal of Industrial Research Fund (lOF) at KU Leuven, is to accelerate the transfer of knowledge and innovations arising from strategic basic research to the market. A team of more than 40 experienced Innovation Managers, embedded within research groups throughout the University and University Hospital, achieve this goal primarily by establishing mutually beneficial, collaborative relationships with a broad range of external partners in industry, academia, as well as national and regional public-private organizations.

The IOF and STADIUS are looking for an Innovation Manager to initiate, develop and support the valorization strategy of the STADIUS Center for Dynamical Systems, Signal Processing and Data Analytics (http://www.esat.kuleuven.be/stadius, Department ESAT, Faculty of Engineering Science) specifically in the ‘AI for Health Care’ domain.
